WORKHOP: Working with Slate in Mosaics
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 9th 10 am - 4 pm PHILLIP ISLAND CAMPUS
With Optional Second day to continue working on your art work Sunday 10th September 10 am - 4 pm
$100 including slate and and lunch. Other materials are extra or BYO
This informative and hands-on workshop will address how to use this interesting, versatile and inexpensive material -slate – as a mosaic medium. We will explore how to cut, cleave and split stale into different shapes and combine with other materials such as minerals, crystals and Smalti to create a unique work of art.
This Workshop Will Cover the Following:

- Where to find/buy slate
- How to break slate
- How to cleave, split and divide slate

How to shape slate pieces
- How to use slate in a mosaic
- Laying techniques
- Adhesives and other important technical know-how
- Cleaving and using minerals and crystals to combine with slate
- Cutting and combining smalti to use with slate
- Using other interesting materials in works of slate e.g. ocean debris, glass shards, found objects, tiles, mirror, shells, ….
- And more...
There will not be time during this one day format to complete a work of art but you will can either make a small sampler, or design and begin a work of art.
You may also choose to make a weekend of it and continue working on your piece the following day, Sunday 10th September for an extra $60
